SAAMI Presents USA Shooting with Another Check

Post by USAS »

Colorado Springs, CO—For the second year in a row, the Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers' Institute held their annual fund-raising dinner & auction generously giving raffle ticket proceeds to the athletes of USA Shooting.

At the 2003 Grand American Trap Shoot in Vandalia, Ohio, Doug Painter of the NSSF, on behalf of SAAMI, presented USA Shooting with a check for $9,900.00 to aid in training United States Olympic shooting hopefuls for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece. Leaha Wirth, Director of Marketing for USA Shooting comments, “The generosity of the members of SAAMI not only goes a long way financially to muscle our team toward world dominance at the games, but also gives our athletes appreciation for the firearms industry and the contributions it brings to their competitive ability. The athletes work very hard in many capacities within the industry through gun safety campaigns, youth shooting programs, and shooting sports stewardships. It feels good to know that they are recognized for their involvement and commitment to the perpetuation of the sport.”

USA Shooting is recognized by the U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC) and the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) as the national governing body for the Olympic and international shooting sports in the United States. International shooting includes more than two-dozen different events for both men and women in four different disciplines; pistol, rifle, shotgun and running target. Seventeen of these events are currently part of the Olympic shooting sports program. USA Shooting trains and selects the USA Shooting Team, which represents the United States throughout the year in numerous major international competitions worldwide including the Olympic Games, World Championships, Pan American Games, Championships of the Americas and at ISSF World Cups.
