Yes, I swage them up into 0.314" match bullets.

The new box label says "Plinkers".

As received, they shoot roughly ten ring in a barrel with a 0.311" groove diameter, or smaller, at 50 yards (45.72M).

The new lube shoots quite cleanly, very minimal Lead fouling.

Three cheers for Speer, as they are the only ones left in the USA making a HBWC 32 bullet.

The bullet is advertised as .314, but the ones I get are more like .3125- .30. Good value.

All my Speer 32s measure .314 and all my 32s, especially the Manurhin, love them.

Mine measure 0.3135 plus or minus half a thou.
They go great in Manurhin and MG4, even though the manurhin slugs out at 0.315, maybe a tad more.
I'm going to swage some larger next time i reload a batch for the Manurhin.

I often size down...but swaging up is new to me.

The current Speer "Plinkers" (98 HBWC) are generally less than 0.314" as received.

They also appear to have been tumbled as the edges are rounded over and not sharp. Probably due to the lubrication process?

The new lube is a thin dry compound and as a result they swage (bump up) very nicely.

I have a 0.314" diameter swage die and the Speer Plinkers slip into the die with ease. Then I compress (swage) the Prinker in the die between the top and bottom punch that reshapes the nose, base, and brings the diameter up to 0.3143".

The bullet now resembles the excellent H&N projectile, has a uniform diameter, and the base is uniform.

As a result, the bumped bullets shoot very well in a variety of pistols. Usual grouping at 50 yards is under 2 inches.

I have used the bullets Dave describes with the similar results. With some direction from Dave I recently purchased a swaging tool with custom dies to do exactly what Dave describes. I have sent some bullets to Dave and a couple others to assist in testing. Will post results when available. Many thanks to Dave!!!

Thanks Dave and Greg. It makes sense to take an undersized batch of projectiles and as you say “swage them up” to a more suitable size. What change is there in OAL ?

I have “downsized” projectiles to a more useable size but not the other way around.

A randomly selected Speer Plinker is 0.545" overall length.

My "bumped" bullet measures 0.580" overall. The dimension from the base to the shoulder measures 0.535". The "bumped" version has a dome on the nose end of the bullet with about a 0.040" flat shoulder.

As I mentioned earlier, I copied the successful H&N profile.

One can Monkey about with the nose and base profiles to bring about different lengths.

The image attached is fired at 50 yards from a factory Pardini HP barrel held in a mechanical fixture using "bumped" Plinkers.

Does the lube survive the swaging process? Or do you re-lube them afterwards?
