As far as I can tell, this is a forum for pistol shooting and this is why I thought this would have been the best place to ask the question as a total beginner!

I've only posted here 11 times, and this is my first thread started on this forum.
I started my 1st post by saying,

So what did you do, you saw somebody totally vulnerable and in need of good solid advice and deliberately mislead them into buying something totally unsuitable for the job!!! I'm now stuck with a gun that has cost me £145 plus £15 postage to my local gun shop AND a a £25 collection fee for the local shop.

So that's £185 you have DELIBERATELY encouraged/recomended me to spend!!!
I have now also looked up the other FWB guns you suggested, and I can see they are also old pieces of garbage !!!!
I didn't feel the need to research the Gat as I stupidly took your word for it, considering your very high post count I assumed (wrongly) you were an authority on pistols! I didn't expect for one second you were taking the piss out of me for your own self-satisfaction !!!!!

Thank you Rover for your dishonesty to a new forum member and a beginner pistol shooter. I hope you are really happy in yourself.

Now I've got to try and dispose of this gun when it gets here, join a new 'honest' forum and start again !!

The Evo is a nice gun but very nose heavy. I bought it myself as my first gun too because a lot of people have them and it was a couple hundred euros cheaper than the Walther LP400. If you can drive to the shop do it and try all the pistols you can. Same thing at your club.

So tell them you changed your mind and want to buy a much more expensive pistol. They'll be pleased to sell you one that cost 10 or 15 times as much! (Not to mention accessories.)

In TWO places I made my recommendations for low priced top of the line guns, but you chose to buy the cheapest piece of crap on YOUR list. So sorry.

I've had a bit of good luck with getting hold of a Harrington Gat this morning. I found one in a gun shop for £145 on line, the shop keeper told me it's in unused condition, totally mint and a bargain. The shop is having it sent over to my local gun shop. I should be able to collect it from there Thursday :-)

I think you'd find an old Steyr LP1, even in CO2, would be more than adequate for anything you wanted to do.

Neglected to mention FWB 100, 102, 103,... and, last, but not least, FWB 65, 80, and 90.

No, not garbage, no way, those FWBs are desent guns, recommendable as a first gun for a beginner IMO. And so is the, from Rover listed, Steyr LP1, even the older CO2-version of that one.

BTW: "Sumbeam" never got to buy the Gat... :-)

I do not own an evo but from what I have seen there is no systematic trouble with either the "recoil absorber" or the regulator. I am sure there are some that have had troubles but they don't seem to be typical. I would suggest looking at the P8X as well.

You are right. Top notch competitors have their regulators of their Steyr LP-s serviced or exchanged accasionally, same for other top brands.
To my knowledge, the "recoil-absorbers" of the Steyr LP 10s have a good reputation.
The absorbers of the FWB models 34 and 44 had serious issues.
The FWB PX8 appeared lately, and no owner reports about the "in the long run" performance of the "recoil absorber" of this very pistol have reached my ears yet.

Until I have 20k shots on my P8X I cannot comment. I took the leap assuming that fwb had corrected the recoil absorber issues. I have general good feelings about fwb as they seem to stock parts long after other vendors give up. I am hopeful but only have 1200 shots or so out of my brand new P8X. It may be a disaster waiting to pounce but so far I am very happy. I absolutely love my fwb rifles and they never seem to need repair.

Given that, the recoil absorber is not something that I take too seriously. I can disable it if needed. I am routinely outshot by pistols lacking such an "innovation". Something to do with the shooter and not the gun.
