3 positional airrifle

Post by adriaan snyman »

Rumours have it that 3 positional airrifle is the discipline of the future...
Cumbustion based calibres to be stopped at Olympic Games etc, licencing becoming problematic the world over.
Opinions about airrifle shooting in the classical smallbore arena?
3P shooting over 10m with "free" airrifles, in the 2008 Games?
I would like to position myself correctly for the future.

Wouldn't that result in everybody shooting perfect scores? ESPECIALLY with "free" airrifles. Its easy enough with standard rifle rules.

If they used high power air rifles they could still shoot at 50m.

: I agree about the scores. With all the recent talk about new rules to lower scores, I don't see the ISSF allowing three position air rifle into the World Cups. As far as the Olympics are concerned, running target and womens double trap were dropped from the program, so I doubt adding a new event will happen any time soon.
I shoot LOTS of 3P air, and I find that shooting 3p air helps build positions for smallbore shooting, but it does not replace it. In my opinion, the air rifle is just not meant to be used in 3p because of the deep forend needed for the compressed air cylinder.
