What did you expect David.

Apart from last year, when the WC schedules were set before the new Olympic events were decided, I can't remember any World Cup holding a non-Olympic event. There might have been an odd one here or there, but I can't remember one.

The change is that Women now shoot 60 shot air pistol. They won't merge men and women as that wouldn't be acceptable in the Olympics.

Yes there is, but that is totally different from merging the Men and Women events.

Here's a link to the latest rules.

I also wonder if the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games will be the last one with 50m Free Pistol
as they also dropped Standard, Centrefire and seperate teams events.
My faith in the ISSF is at a all time low....

Remember that the Commonwealth Games are not run by the ISSF.

Unfortunately, as Durban (which wasn't going to run FB Rifle) has lost the 2022 Games, they have been awarded to Birmingham - UK. At the moment they have not included ANY shooting.

Might be a better source than Wikipedia, but for quick reference:
The ISSF World Cup was introduced by the International Shooting Sport Federation in 1986 to provide a homogeneous system for qualification to the Olympic shooting competitions.
Not in the Olympics? Not in the World Cup.

But, IMO the ISSF should be pushing for as many all inclusive events to build a cross discipline shooting community. And to be prepared to be able to send any discipline to the Olympics immediately.

The issues would be athlete and venue funding. But IMO, every country that is looking to host Commonwealth or Olympic games needs to have at least a national training center. So, where ever the Comonwealth or Olympic games are held, the ISSF should lobby and pressure and support the local affiliated National and Regional Federations to organise a concurrent or closely spaced competition that covers all the ISSF events not held at the games.

I would expand that out to ask if Gold Coast will be the last time that any shooting is in CWGs. India's influence will be the only hope.

There may be an argument for a completely new governing body that has its main purpose to foster and expand “pistol shooting events” as we now know them.

From my limited knowledge it appears that the current body is intent on burying pistol shooting instead of advancing the sport and increasing awareness. ...at least this is my understanding and my expectation.

Surely there are others with similar concerns.

Seems like those running the ISSF have a liberal flavor to them. Take it as you wish, but introducing "all inclusive events to build a cross discipline shooting community" sounds like liberal crap to me. That is feel good BS that I doubt makes many on this forum feel good. It is a smoke screen for downgrading/minimizing our sport. You can take that excrement and shove where the sun don't shine.

I think part of the problem is that the ISSF tends to be focused on the Olympic Games...which means dancing to the tune of the IOC, and ultimately NBC Sports. The latter being rabidly anti-gun.

My opinion is that ISSF needs to generate some separation. I'd be working to hold more events, maybe even open discussions with the MLAIC for sharing venues...as we did in 2014.

I understand the pressures they are working under with regard to the Olympics - though I think the solution adopted by the FIE (fencing World body) for a similar problem would be better. They wound up going to a rotation of events, which kept everything an Olympic sport even if one specific event was not held at a specific Games. Having said that, I put the entire onus on the IOC...ISSF knows that if they dropped RF today, there would be a move tomorrow in some countries to ban the possession of repeating pistols. Kindly note that ISSF is pushing back hard against IOC notions about replacing firearms with laser toys.

Like I said, the liberal socialist weenies are running the show. The first step was just taken to eliminate shooting and it was a big step.

ANd as soon as you start being a judgemental ass you become one of the biggest problems in the way of promoting shooting sports to a wider audience.

From my post.
Seems having all disciplines of shotgun, pistol, rifle come together and stand side-by-side to grow each others sports is a leftist liberal weenie type of thing to suggest.

Count me among the judgmental asses, but I will agree with the obvious: feminization of the western society is going full steam.

SlartyBartFast, I would like to publically offer you an apology. You did offer your comment "IMO" so I should have left it there. Moving on, the fact is the socialists libs are running the ISSF either directly or indirectly and they are closing in on us. Whether or not they are weenies is subjective. IMO, I think most socialist liberals are weenies, gun grabbing hypocritical lying weenies. If you want to know what I really think, I can exand on that later. Anyway, the powers are eliminating entire events and trying to pacify us by introducing a mixed event. I guess your choice of the term "all inclusive" got me going as that sounds like a phrase that a demoncrat might use here in the US. It makes everyone feel good...I have an idea, let's give everyone a trophy whether they win or loose. We don't want anyone's feelings to get hurt. Dang, there I go again. I guess I am just a smart ass by nature. I am really not a bad guy...oh wait, that is becoming politically incorrect down here...I am really not a bad person. We need to be gender neutral. Seriously, I am not being a smart ass toward you. My tongue in cheek comments are a product of our politically correct atmosphere down here in the US. It totally sucks.

Our various disciplines are already together under one "roof". However, it is sometime difficult to "come together and stand side by side to support each others sport" in anything other than spirit because largely the various disciplines travel in different cirlces at different times. So, we (not me becasue I am a has been) have to rely on our representative organization (USA Shooting here) to stand up for our sport, our interest. Ever since international shooting split from the NRA, it has been going down hill. Participation here in the US is pretty low and our International Pistol Championships has been reduced to something much less than it used to be, a whole lot much less.

Anyway, they are diminishing our sport. It could be money, it could be because they don't like lead vapor polluting the air, perhaps the noise produced might be disturbing some spotted owl somewhere, maybe they just hate guns and bullets and want to highly regulate gun ownership....socialism maybe? Sound familiar? BTW, I came to Canada one time to shoot an air gun match and it was questionable for a bit if they were going to let me into the country because they thought the pellet velocity might be too high. I played dumb (not too hard to fake). Socialist like dumb, scratch that...misinformed people...IMO! Wanna guess who I voted for down here? Rhetorical question.

Once again, sorry I was too aggressive. Perhaps I did not fully understand your comments. Hope you accept my appology.

Good shooting.
