Need your help, improved my trap but need input

I have been working on an improvement to my pellet trap for a few weeks. This improvement does away with the clipboard clip and makes it much easier to mount and remove the target (one handed easy operation). This will hopefully allow you to shoot more in less time or just shoot more. I have 2 versions and need to know which you guys would prefer. I sorta like the current design. I shoot Edelmann targets exclusively and I ( use to ) hit everything near the target.
I make my own inserts and use a small clip to hold the target.

Exactly, except almost no force is needed to insert the target, versus a good amount of force and a stiff x-ray are needed to insert the x-ray in the holder. I use those things all the time, but for some reason, I didn't even consider these. I guess due to the memory of the force needed. I remember back to that note holder from residency. I even tracked down the manufacturer, but discounted its use due to expense and difficulties mounting the device.

Hi Doc.
Love the design of your target for Edelmans (for 10m AP). As a woodworker myself, I followed the lead as you describe in your site and tweaked a little here and there (and went with scrap stock taking up valuable shop space). My trap is a rather pedestrian plywood version of your exquisite opus. My main point however, is that I cut a groove along the front edge of the side panels (about 1/4" in from the front edges) sort of a dado except it is a single pass of a thin-kerf blade. By carefully making the assembled trap to position the bottoms of the slots wide enough to just clear the Edelman dimension, the target slips cleanly into place and rests in a similar groove at the top of the spent pellet trough. Believe me....this is definitely a one-handed change of target arrangement and has survived nearly 20,000 pellets in the last year. There is one ding (spelled: oops) in the carcass, but duck seal has done the job well as a ballistic putty. I can email you a picture of the assembly if you want....although I'm sure you are intimately familiar with the construction details. In short, no clips, no extra hands, no failures.....happy shooter. Perhaps we can talk shop and shooting in Roanoke. Appreciate your posts and interest in the sport. Craig

I heard from somebody, but do not remember from who, that placing Kevlar in front of ballistic putty prevents pellets from bunching up leaving whole pellet trap cleaner inside.
I do not clean mine as often as I should and I get little of lead dust on inside surfaces, which I wipe with damp paper towel when I get around to cleaned it.
I wander if above combination (I think he said to place Kevlar right next to putty) will extend live of Kevlar and keep from
creating dust.
P.S.
I build one from leftover plywood, using your instructions. I painted chrome metal parts with black flat paint to cut down on glare. It gets very heavy use, almost every day from three shooters for more than two years. It still looks like the day I build it. Factory build lasted only few months.

Your modifcation sounds a lot like the set up I made in the edelman/rika version of my trap. Send me an pic if you can. Are you using preprinte targets on heavy paper or self printed on 8.5 x 11 paper.

I received many responses offline also. I will most likely leave this decision up to the buyer and see how things go. I have had several say they liked the old design better, so we'll see.
