IZH 46M - The force is Weak

Post by noproblem »

All i am hearing in my head is Obi-Wan saying use the force Marvin , let go Marvin ... Marvin trust me. I tried, however it seems the force is weak re searching on youtube trying find any videos demonstrating how to disassemble and reassemble of the IZH 46m or anything in detail to do you the IZH 46M in English. I was able to find original promo and a few other videos with persons shooting it, but nothing really that would help a new person . Interestingly I would have thought with such a popular air pistol someone would have made multiple video.

Yes, i was able to find a few documented steps, however here is my request to some knowledgeable and courageous member here. Please make a few videos on the IZH 46M re cleaning, testing accuracy. disassemble and reassemble, upgrades, etc. I am extreme sure MANY persons would watch and appreciate it especially ME.

Thanks in advance
Marvin

if it isn't actively leaking or broken, don't mess with it. Air tool oil on the pump seal & a drop down the firing vent it all they usually need.

If it isn't giving you much velocity, there is a very nice slide show out there on how to replace the pump seal.

Someday I will do a write-up on replacing the firing seal, but making repair videos is a LOT of work. Don't hold your breath...

Yup, I'd listen to Gwhite's sound advice: If it ain't broke, don't fix it...you'll save yourself a lotta frustration and cursing...

If you must insist, here's the slide show on how to replace the pump seal:

I've tried that before, and the last step, unscrewing the piston, always jams up. Set screw is out, it turns a bit, but then locks hard. Plus I don't really know if it's shooting weak or not, it's certainly much slower than my Steyr but I couldn't say if it's any slower than when I bought it.

I've had to replace broken pump linkages on three IZH's, which requires disassembling the piston. I've never had a problem unscrewing the inner section of the piston completely. Something isn't right...

The set screw is supposed to go into one of the slots. If it missed by a bit, it may have buggered up the soft threads on the inner piston. I think the outer part is steel (check with a magnet), so in theory, it should recut/re-form the threads with a judicious amount of force... I'd start with some oil to prevent the aluminum from galling, and then work it back & forth gently. It should slowly unscrew a bit more each time until it comes free.

As for velocity, the nominal velocity of an LP-10 is around 520 fps. The IZH-46M is rated for 470 fps, or about 10% lower. If it's not the "M" version, I think it's even slower.

Yep,

Original 46, not the 46M version, velocity is around 380-400 fps. Had 3 of them. Still enough to punch nice, clean holes. A friend just sold one on the Yellow that got snatched up in 15 minutes.

The funny thing is it isn't a stop like a crossthread, it's a stop like "you are not meant to unscrew past this point." It unscrews relatively easy until that point, then stops dead hard in a fraction of a millimeter. I've never forced it beyond that.

This may not be the popular solution, especially for DIY guys, but when I have air gun problems, especially on a RAT (Russian Agricultural Tool-IZH), I send it to Buck and be done with it. Usually ends up being taken care of faster than waiting for parts, etc.
