Rover Bait on Gunbroker

Post by Gwhite »

I hope I'm not breaking any forum rules, but I thought folks would like to know that there is a Pardini K 58 SSP air pistol on Gunbroker with a current bid of $12, no reserve.

No relationship to seller, etc.

With "proxy bidding" that first bid was more than $12. All that shows is $1 over the starting bid. I put in a $37 bid and am not the highest bidder. But $37 is now what shows on gunbroker.

Nice looking gun from the teeny tiny picture.

Nice!, but I'm not chump enough to get into a bidding war with the guy's brother-in-law.

Maybe it's my browser, but as of today there doesn't appear to be any photos of the pistol. A pig in a poke.

There's a picture further down the page. It looks like a stock photo and not an actual snapshot of the pistol. The seller is clearly a newbie, with only one prior sale.

Caution is advised...

Plus, it says it needs seals. I've read these are not the easiest air pistols to work on. Bid is over $350 currently.

Probably there isn't a guy on TT who wouldn't pay $350 for one.

How true, went for over $900. Great buy if you can do the seal job yourself or know of someone who can.

To have Pardini USA in Florida do the seals would cost $60 for the work, $28.31 for the seal kit, and $35 for return shipping. The K58 is an exceptional SSP and whoever paid $905 for it wanted it very much. 36 bids indicates a feeding frenzy.

$35 for shipping is a complete rip-off!

$35 for shipping isn't unreasonable if they're fully insuring the pistol. I've shipped a couple $2-3k firearms recently and the insurance cost as much as the actual shipping.

I know that at least for firearms, Pardini insists on shipping next-day air, which also jacks up the costs.

Actually, it's the shippers that insist on next day air for firearms. UPS couldn't/wouldn't keep their employees from stealing firearms. So, rather than crack down on the thieves, they insisted on next day shipping that has closer controls and documented hand-offs. FedEx followed suit just because they could.

FFLs can still use the US mail.
