Post by John Neal »

Hi guys,
I am undecided which free pistol to purchase, Morini CM84E or the Hammerli FP 10 or Hammerli 160 special?
any suggestion as to their advantages and disadvantages?
Thanks

I don't know that much about the FP-10---it did (does) have some bad press---I know that Larry Carter won't sell it. I have the 160 Special and love the gun---I have worked with the Morini 84E and have been tempted because I have the Morini 162EI AP---but, I cannot justify selling the Hammerli to purchase the Morini. If you want to be on the cutting edge of technology then the Morini 84E is the way to go. The TOZ is a great gun---but---needs big cohones to adjust and get it to work the way it is capable. The TOZ is rough and the Hammerli is a gem--so is the Morini--so either gun is a plus---ultimately you decide how to spend your money.

Buy Morini free pistols.
Easier to maintain.
Good for beginner because it is very easy to adjust the grip to you and in the other hand you can adjust yourself to the pistols easier than the others.

For me the best free pistol is the morini.
see the great competition : wc, jo etc...
there are a lot of toz pistol, some pardini , some hammerli , and much more morini c84e,etc..
and the grip of the morini is good.

The Hammerli FP-10 has had some bad press, and some of it has been very justifiable. The current-production units seem to work just fine. On the line at the Pan Am Games was a variety of pistols, including two FP-10's.
The benefits of the FP-10 is that it's grip is highly adjustable (in the same way as the Steyr air pistols are), while the Morini is not adjustable except by removing/adding wood. The balance of the FP-10 is fantastic - very much like shooting an air pistol. And the muzzle break actually works, without having to be cleaned after every box of shells. The trigger is adjustable to be a true 2-stage unit - very nice trigger, but some of the original ones would go "bang" without being pulled by the shooter. Sights are great with an adjustable-width rear notch like the Steyr air pistols. Some of the units were shipped with short front sights, making it difficult to obtain a sub-6 sight picture. Hammerli has so far been good to work with in replacing flaky trigger units and short front sights under warranty.
All in all, I'm a big fan of the FP-10 - it's likely to be my next free pistol (currently shoot TOZ and Hammerli 150).
