Small frame sitting position

Post by shawn706 »

So I have a 4th grade girl on my 5m BB team that is tiny. I've never been a fan of the open sitting position, but I her case I think it is, for now, her only alternative. In the cross leg position she's so balled up that she has to float her cheek and knees to get any kind of sight alignment, and even then NPA is impossible. The open sitting position seems to be much more comfortable stable.
If anyone has any alternative or additional advise I'd love to hear it.

You could also try the "crossed ankle" position, if she is very flexible. The "open" position can be used with feet apart, or the soles (or inside) of the feet touching.

Sitting is the most varied position, due to length of arms, back, legs, and the girth of the individual. Many must use a very canted position of the rifle in order to get their face on the stock. If rules permit, a palm block can be helpful.

This is one of the most varied positions. We used to have a young girl in our league that shot with her feet flat on the mat and elbows on her knees Everyone told her that it was no good and you could not do well. Well, she outshot most of the other sitting shooters every week!! Try them all and see what works best and work on that. If she has to tilt the rifle or her head to get to the stock, so be it. Have fun. Don in Oregon

My daughter had the same issue, her torso was so long that she had a hard time getting into a good sitting position. This year our head coach put her in the position that Don described and it made a world of difference, it just takes a little getting used to.
