Fellows. Wind died down here in the DFW area this AM and I finally got to the range to try some different ammo out. I shot at 100 yards, prone off sandbags.
My go to ammo when I shot SB 15 years or so ago was Federal 711b. I've got 3 bricks of the same lot. This ammo I shot first up and after shooting the other ammo I was trying I shot more of the 711b.
Questions. How does (did) the Federal 711b ammo (dimpled case head) compare to the following which I also tried. ELEY Edge, Eley/Remington Match, ELEY Match ($$$$), ELEY Club, and SK Match?
All the ammo I tried grouped well but all in all the group size was nearly the same. The Club ammo shot a smaller group than I thought it would. SK Match shot well. The $20 ELEY Match shot good but not alot better than the $8 Club.
I'm thinking of buying a brick or so of more "Match" grade ammo but with 3 bricks of 711b on hand...and for the small amount of time I shoot SB.... I wondering if I should stick with my 711b.
Thoughts?

New ammo will be a new lot number. You'll just have to test.

the old 711b was made by Federal, IF(notice BIG IF) IF I remember right the newer match ammo is made in Germany by RWS.
The 711b was good indoor 50ft. ammo, I think the Eley offerings you mentioned would shoot better . The SK is on par with the 711b.
Everyone has different idea's on Testing ammo, some say clean out the old lube and re-foul with the next ammo before you shoot groups. Some say start with a clean barrel, some say just shoot a few rounds of the next brand of cartridge to foul with that brands lube, it's your decision.
If you're happy with the performance of the 711b, then I'd stick with it until you run out and then worry about the next brand of .22 ammo.
All this is just my opinion, take it for what its worth.
