It does look interesting. They have a bunch of YouTube videos:

https://www.youtube.com/results?search_ ... +assistant

The gun sensor looks a bit like a SCATT, but it doesn't require any sensors downrange, or even reflectors like the Noptel system. I haven't found any info on the zeroing process required.

With free international shipping, it works out to about $620 USD. If I didn't have a Noptel, it would be very attractive.

Also no real detail or documentation on the system, the data that is collected or how it is presented to the user aside from the "trace" itself so I assume that is all it provides, along with their "training routines" - built-in interactive shooting workouts.
Software is available online https://www.traceshooting.com/get but requires a sensor to work and licencing seems to require a key based on a code generated by the system on which the software is installed being provided to the manufacturer so even if you install you cannot get beyond the licencing screen to assess its capabilities. This also means you cannot send files to a coach that does not already own a sensor. Why not have a demo version with some sample files to show people what the system can do? Based on their facebook page they are marketing directly in Europe with stands at various competitions. I am seriously tossing up between trace and scatt basic, which appears to be designed to compete against trace, as you say price is attractive compared to scatt (particularly with the occasional discount codes they issue) but don't understand why its capabilities are such a secret?

Contacted with their team about software. They quicky gave me some sort of demo version for software so I managed to find out about all features and possible analysis. Looks good. And there are some special Easter offer on their web page.

I had it from many months: really easy to set-up, got free software update, quick answer to questions, cheap, what else?
For my home training best buy ever.
Maybe lack some analysis feature of major brands at twice the price. I found it plenty acceptable for my use.

If anyone takes a closer look at the video - it's fairly noticable, that the top of TRACE sensor casing is cut wide open for unknown reasons.

Taking this into account and the fact that this video is created and posted by official SCATT representative I think everyone should understand that such test doesn't represent the real comparision of the systems.

Dear Valērijs
I would very much like to see a formal response from Trace to this video and discussion. Of course I understand it was made by their competitor with the intention to discredit the Trace device and they have opened and possibly tampered with the device or tailored the testing to achieve the desired result, but as an owner of a trace unit I have personally experienced these large sharp wild deviations that I know are not real with respect to the hold. The lag appears to be something that has been greatly exaggerated in the video but I do notice some lag between sights coming on to target and the trace line appearing on screen in my unscientific testing, maybe only a second or two but it is there.
Trace please reassure your customer base and respond to us telling us what is being done to address these performance issues and the expected timeframe involved to to rectify these performance issues. If the only way to rectify this is by hardware replacement I would hope Trace will have the integrity to do that for the customers that have put their trust in your company's marketing and performance claims by purchasing this device as early adopters.
Thank you

Hi Luke,

Can you please suggest what does the software report?

thanks, the software looks good! I wonder if anyone has more experience with the system?

I'm currently in cosideration between MX-02 and Trace. I heard that Scatt is bad when it comes to dim light, wonder if trace is any better? Since my main usage would be at my cellar which is quite dark.

Wanted to buy one. Then tested device in Munich. Unfortunately no.. thanks. Line tracing/rendering is not smooth (saw effect). Housing looks cheap (3D printed). The end of the story - I bought scatt basic for 100 Euros more.

I hadn't seen the SCATT Basic before. It looks like it uses the same idea as the Trace system (video camera instead of dedicated optics), but is a bit more hgh end, at least in terms of construction. I'll be interested to hear some hands-on feedback. The price is certainly much better than the regular SCATT or a Noptel system, and the setup should be much simpler. No sensors or reflectors downrange in case you want to live fire.

They claim it is good for up to "mid-level" shooters, so I suspect the accuracy isn't as good as the dedicated optics systems. I would think it could be pretty precise at 10 meters, but may suffer at 50 meters.

Please let us know what you think of the system!

Hm. I am not really sure who uses whose idea but first appearance of basic scatt version was in the mid 2015. Cheaper version without adjustable optics and primitive software for schools.

Here is youtube link from 2015:
https://youtu.be/tKQ9AEXmFbg?t=15s

http://www.scatt.ru/training-systems/124/scatt-gto-nvp/
26000 RUR is about 375 EUR (price for internal Russian market.. Export price is higher).

As usual issf hobby shooter I didn't notice any disadvantages. I must say - I have both... MX02 and Basic.
Basic version - I tried it at 50m Pistol and 50m Rifle - no problem. Inclusive live fire. It doesn't have adjustable lens but I don't have any sniper rifle to use it at distances beyond 50m.
Software offers main things - velocity of the trajectory (the thing to be trained by shooters I thnik), time, different colors for different stages etc.
Basic software doesn't offer NRA and other police/military targets - it is ok - I don't need them.

The best answer will be to find the time-slot... mount both MX02 and Basic on the barrel and make a couple of shots at 50m for youtube.

I too would love to see an open-minded head-to-head comparison of Trace and Scatt.

As for Scatt Basic, the hardware isn't the only thing that's Basic, there are quite a few omitted software features. At <=50m and with mid-level expectations though, it may be a decent choice. It supports live fire, which is a big plus. Also has a MacOS version.

Check out the manuals, they show pretty clearly what's left out:
http://www.scatt.com/file_download/129/ ... al_ENG.pdf
http://www.scatt.com/file_download/56/S ... al_ENG.pdf

The software can be installed too, http://www.scatt.com/downloads/70/downloads/

Have anyone used both SCATT Basic and TRACE ? I am ready to purchase one of these but I need some more facts to back up my decision which of them would be the best fit in my case.

What I need :
1) system that performs at min distance 4m;
2) system with easy set up;
3) system that is not overloaded with complicated data and can give me easy understandable information

Also, what about these software updates that TRACE offers ?
How often do they release new version and is it free of charge ?
