Air Pistol Match in Bloomer Wisconsin April 8th, 2017

Post by ChipEck »

No joke, after not being able to find any matches Jim Ruch and I decided to run one ourselves. We met with Jerry Wilder, who was a well known International and Olympic Pistol Shooter back when he lived in Indiana. Jerry gave us a lot of good advice.

More details to follow, but it will be Saturday, April 8th, 2017 at the Bloomer Rod & Gun in Bloomer, Wisconsin.
We will be shooting on 4 bullseye targets since we do not have target return system.
We can accommodate relays of 12.
We will have awards.
Event will be 60 rounds in 70 minutes (with time to retrieve/replace targets).

The cost will be $8 for main event.

We will have a SIUS lane set up to run a seperate best shot event.
This will be $2 for five shots. The closest to 10.9 wins the entire pot.
In the event of a tie the pot will be split.

There is a hotel just two miles away. Much more to follow.

Five shots per bull.
Plus we will have a commercial SIUS unit to have a "closest to center" fun match.

Sole intent of this event is to have fun and build interest in air pistol, although we do have interest from some with national and international experience.

Watch out for C.Perkins! He'll try to win with skill and devotion to the sport. He's no fun; they call him The Farklemeister.

The SIUS electronic target for the 10.9 event will be shipped tomorrow! Getting excited for the April 8th match. Talked to local news media. Have some interest and a lot of interest from people that have shot bullseye, but never tried air pistol. Also three juniors that have never shot an air pistol match!!!

Well, match is done. From my perspective it was a success. Shooters seemed to like the engraved Buck knives, 23 shooters, several women and eight new shooters and juniors. Clarence Perkins was the top scorer with a 538. As a joke I handed him the 1st place Men's Senior knife. If I would have had a camera it would have been perfect.:-). Clarence took it well and he was the Mens overall champion. Jerry was nice enough to bring a collection of his international medals. I think the juniors thought that was neat. We also let the juniors and novices shoot on additional relays for fun if they wanted to and many took us up on the offer. A big thank you for all who attended!

Good thing I wasn't there. Clarence would have died the death of a thousand cuts from your trophy knives.

I told you he was no fun; blinding the fellow competitors with his flashy farkles.

Thanks Chip and Jerry for putting on a good match.
Everything ran smoothly.
The best thing is that there were no incidents, all shooters had good muzzle awareness which made it a safe match.
I felt that the majority of the shooters showed interest and am aware of at least one lady novice shooter is already thinking of purchasing an air pistol.
The fried chicken was dang good.

Chip, since you approached from behind me with the award it would be easy to assume that I was a senior from all the silver hair :)
Rover, the flashy farkle did work and worked well :)

I hope people will get involved and train to shoot better.
All the shooting sports that I have been involved in is an individual accomplishment/achievement.
Not out there to out score other shooters.
I look at it as to train and be the best that I can be.
The scores; let the chips fall as they may.
As long as you did the best you could that day you could be the winner or last place, who cares.
There is always tomorrow.
