Damascus Airgun Show - report

Post by Joe Matusic, MD »

First day back to my computer since the show. The show was this last Saturday at Damascus Maryland. The show was from 9am - 4pm. Turnout was very brisk and was at near record level at 2pm (when I asked someone about it). There was space for casual shooting for visitors (Daisy 717, IZH-46 and a Crosman Challenger were available I think at 15 shots for $1). There was a big bore shoot and space for trying airguns. I heard something about the big bore range being closed due to weather at one point. I took my Falcon FN12 and the guy who bought it was able to test it at the range.
Since this forum is mainly a 10m forum, I will limit the rest to that. The show was at a range clubhouse. They apparently have 10m shoots in the basement for 10m pistol and rifle and have a youth program. This program had some used 853s for sale from $90-$120. One of the guys had a used Walther 10m rifle single stroke pneumatic in left hand for sale for only $800. There was a dealer upstairs (Atlantic airguns, I beleive) and they had a lot of 10m stuff. They brought a aluminum stock P70, regular P70, the single stroke pneumatic version of the P70 (602, I think), a 5 shot version of the P34 (CP55, I think, it sold by the way), a P34 and some IZH-46Ms. There were several 5 and 6Gs, but I don't think any sold. I saw a FAS 604 and a Gamo Compact. One of the neatest things I saw was a Crosman model 84. This was a 10m co2 rifle made in the early 1980s. It had a LCD pressure monitor on the right side of the gun. It was on sale for $1250, but didn't sell to my knowledge. The guy who had it for sale had 2 and this one was unfired. I remember this gun so well, because one of my floor mates in my first year of college at West Virginia University in 1982 had one. He shot competitively for WVU. We gave him levis and he brought back vodka and Mexican Tequila from his international meets. Can't remember his name.
I did pick up a Daisy Valiant (CZ200T) for my daughter. Pefect size for youth, nice build quality. Only got to sight it in yesterday. I brought my FWB 300s mini for sale. It didn't sell after many tirekickers. Despite bringing one 300 for sale, I did buy a FWB300s regular for a great price. I also picked up a Airarms XM-100 for a good price too. I sold about half of the traps I brought. This was great considering that I didn't sell anything 2 years ago when I last attended the Damascus show. I would not have gone, had it not been to visit my brother's new daughter since he lives close. I will most likely go next year though. See everyone at Roanoke.
