is practicing smallbore at 10m an effective way to practice? any tricks or pointers on shooting at this short distance would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

I use an electronic trainer at 10 meters in my basement and find it very effective. I suggest you look into that instead of live fire at 10 meters. No, they are not the same. One supplements the other. Practice where you live with the electronics, supplemented by live fire at the correct distance at the range.
