TV/ Radio interview regarding HS & senior photo

Hi guys my son Andrew is a senior in HS at North eastern central School District in Champlain NY. My sons school allows a formal picture and a casual photo, one that shows a little about you or your hobby. My son decided to pose with his target air rifle. After submission he was called to the principle office and told no guns are allowed in any photo as it might offend people. We of course are asking them to change their mind. Congrats Peakconti on defending our sport. It is people like you that someday the neanderfals in the school system will acknowledge that target rifle shooting is a sport.

Well done for sticking up for your son. I did not listen to the clip, but you are right to do this. I was lucky that my daughter's school was very supportive of her shooting. She started with BR before moving to ISSF events, and when she came second overall in one class at the British Championships, as well as winning several Ladies and Junior events, they actually gave her a school sports award, with her name being the first one to go on a new plaque that celebrates sporting national level sporting achievement at the school. Admittedly they used the word Markswoman to describe her achievement, but I wasn't going to complain about that, it is actually a very good, traditional, and much less emotive word to use. They even put a bit on the school website news feed at the time, with a picture of her with a rifle. This was I think really good as her high school was one with an emphasis on the performing arts, not sports.

Another thing was that the school/education authority used a web filter that blocked access to both the NRA (GB) and the NSRA, the two main governing bodies for rifle/pistol target sports here in the UK. Rosie approached the school about this, as they didn't seem to block any other sports NGB's and the school actually removed the block on the sites. I guess we were really lucky with her choice of school, as it was not the one she should normally have gone to as it was out of her catchment area, she wanted the Art's specialisation, rather than the local schools Sports.
