Barrel Vent Leading

The other day I was reading a condemnation of compensators for lead build up. I seem to remember that the rapid fire pistols (in the 22 short era) had vent holes in the top of the barrel. I also don't remember seeing a lot of discussion about the vents clogging up with lead. Did I just miss the lead build up complaints, or is there a reason that rapid fire pistol barrels did not, and free pistol compensators do?

My logical answer would be velocity. .22 short vs. even Standard velocity .22. There also might be issues with lubes.

My experience pushing heavy bullets at slow speeds in Black Powder Cartridge Rifles is that velocity and lube play a major role in leading control or elimination. The cci 22 short for match use had a velocity of 850 fps out of a 22 inch barrel. I don't know about other manufacturers. But that is well under 22 standard velocity.

I can't remember whether it was lead or just general crud but I certainly remember people having trouble changing their blanking screw configuration.

Taking screws out could be the devil of a job, but putting them into other (open) holes was a major pain.
