5 shot airpistol discipline

Post by yana »

Is there a good book about 5 shot AP shooting? Or other documents about 'how to'? Especially about specific techniques to use.
I have a few lads at the gunclub I'd like to help starting up with this discipline..

I don't know any book, but what kind of information you need?

Rules are here:

We in Finland shoot national discipline called "Rapid air pistol" in which we use modified 25 m rapid fire pistol rules. For example shooting times are 10, 8 and 6 seconds and targets are reduced rapid pistol targets. We shoot also sometimes "standard air pistol" and "sport air pistol" using those rules modified for 10 m. These are actually much more interesting disciplines than official ISSF 5 shot air pistol.

I think for ISSF 5 shot air pistol can be used basically the techniques used in 25 m rapid fire pistol. Hitting the target means about 9,7 comparing in our rapid air pistol target and shooting time (10 s) is rather slow, so it needs a bit more accuracy and less rapid pistol shooting technique to score in 5 shot air pistol.

Check 'Pistol Shooting' available by MEC. It is a very comprehensive book including chapter on rapid fire techniques. I wasnt interested in that part but one of my colleagues claims it helped him plenty.

Book was written originally in German years back and just couple of months ago translated to English. I have no clue about US availability.

Written by Heinz Reinkemeier, Gaby Bühlmann, Dr. Alfred Konietzny, Peter Kraneis, Barbara Georgi, Alfons Messerschmirtt, Jan-Erik Aeply, Matthias Hahn, Uschi Seifert, Ulrich Eichstädt, Michel Ansermet, Ralf Schumann, Nino Salukvadze, Uwe Potteck, Dr. Robert Loke, Gretje Reinemer, Wolfram Kriegleder i Mike Hecker.
220 pages and over 1200 photos and pictures.

There are places where it is quite conservative (reading articles and famous shooters comments you can see some of this knowledge gets little rusty) but generally I have not seen anything better or more detailed on how actual things should be performed.

Hope this helps.
