Questions about Remington 540XR
Hi,
Could anyone tell me about the Remington 540XR trigger and accuracy?
I like to shoot with 5oz trigger, can the 540 be adjusted like that?
Best regards,
Ivan

No. The 540xr has about a 3# trigger at best, usually worse. The trigger can not be safely modified to go lower than this without experiencing slam fires when the bolt is closed.
I'm sure someone will be along directly to explain that I am wrong. That's OK. Your mileage may vary.
The accuracy is pretty fair.
There are a lot of better ways to spend your money than trying to make a 540xr into a match rifle.

I have a 540xr, got it for $275 in a 540x stock, exposed bluing all brown, with sights, sling, and handshop. Definitely a bit rough, but it's a good shooter, and more accurate than a rifle that cheap should be. I don't know what the trigger weight is, but it's fairly light and consistent. I can't adjust it any lower, but it's not 5oz.
please note, in our litigation minded society, I am not suggesting that anyone try to alter anything on their rifle.
But to expand on the accuracy, a friend shot .22 silhouette with a 540 and his wife with a m54. at the same time my wife used a 540 and I used a 40x. Off a bench, either 540 would beat the more expensive rifles.
