Rifle pellets vs Pistol pellets

Post by poogi »

Looking at the selection of match pellets, I see pistol and rifle versions of say R-10s or H&N Match.

Usually rifle versions are about 1gr heavier. Whats the reasons for this? As far as I know, you can adjust the velocity/power level for the comp guns. Is it just marketing?

Not all guns can be adjusted for velocity / pressure especially SSP's.

Typically pistols have less power than rifles, so pistol shooters shoot lighter pellets to keep velocity levels up to where they desire them to be.

Also some guns shoot better with lighter or heavier pellets, so this can be a factor in ammo selection.
