AR-4 5-metre BB gun target dimensions ?

Does anybody know the scoring ring dimensions for the AR-4 5-metre BB gun target such as used in NRA BB gun competition?

Or better yet, does anyone have a link to a free downloadable, properly scaled target?

The NRA rulebook has the dimensions of an the TQ-40 Experimental target (used in initial training) but not the AR-4 that is used in competition.

I have a couple of young folks that have time over Christmas break that want me to introduce them to the game. I like to use properly sized targets when possible and don't have time to wait for a pack to arrive by mail.

This is not a deal-breaker, I can always improvise with a closely sized target, but if I can use the proper one from the beginning I will.

The specs are in the NRA rule book, section 4.2 has the experimental sizes and right above that are the regular dimensions.

10 ring 0.125 inches 5 ring 1.625 inches
9 ring 0.425 inches 4 ring 1.925 inches
8 ring 0.725 inches 3 ring 2.225 inches
7 ring 1.025 inches 2 ring 2.525 inches
6 ring 1.325 inches 1 ring 2.825 inches
Ring Thickness 0.0006 inches

Unless I'm reading the rule book incorrectly, those are the dimensions for the TQ experimental target.

My rulebook dated 2010 (the one currently on the NRA website) lists those dimensions immediately below the graphic of the experimental target leading me to believe they apply to the TQ and not to the AR-4 which is listed above the TQ.

Am I misreading the book?

You are right, the 2010 rulebook is confusing on this. The 2013 rulebook has the same information, but it is shown in a more logical order.

Just to check, I measured an AR-4/10 target and the dimensions are correct. The 1 ring on the experimental targets is huge, maybe 5" or so. But on both targets the black circle is the same diameter.

I'll have to get a copy of the newer rulebook. You would think that the NRA would have the newest available on their site, but I'm not really complaining. It wasn't that long ago that the NRA not only would not post up rulebooks, but would go after websites where people had put up that info on their own.

I understand protecting copyright info, and I also understand the NRA (like any organization) would have preferred that everyone buy a book thereby increasing revenue, but it actually hampered folks running proper competitions reducing revenues in the long run (thinking match registration fees here). At least that was my experience running NRA / CMP matches for many years. So anything here is an improvement!

This 5-metre BB gun course of fire really makes sense to me ... what a great way to get kids involved in the game ... for little to no cost. I think I'm going to run with this and start "building a program", even if it is in my backyard!

Rambling here ... sorry, thanks again for the information and I'll do a better job ensuring I have a current rulebook in the future.

If you decide to pursue this, and have kids who are interested, then work toward qualifying for the Daisy BB Gun Nationals. Our team qualified for and went to Nationals last year. It was a great experience.
