Hi all, I may be in the wrong part if the forum here so apologies if I am :-)
So I have got back into shooting in a big way, and am shooting in two disciplines at the moment. The first is prone .22 rimfire and I want to know the best ammo for that but will post separately I think to keep the two topics apart
Current gun is the Air Arms S200 Sporter. Lovely little rifle that seems very accurate up to 25 yards. What I notice with the flat headed or domes pellets is a number of very stray shot whilst sighting (on bench) so it's not my movement making them inconsistent.
So my question is for the Light Weight Sporting rifle completion:
• I am looking for the best pellets for flight and consistent accuracy.
• what are the regulations are the any restrictions on the kind of pellets
• What factor does the weight / grain have in the flight / trajectory
Any other suggestion would be great, I am new the the whole LW air rifle game
Apologies if this is all a bit about face and in the wrong place just have soooo May questions
Cheers
Tim

Not quite Olympic or national level 3P/Prone, but I'll give you my opinion. When it comes to the sporter class rifles running at around 12 fpe then probably the best pellet out there is the JSB exact. It weighs a nominal 8.4 grains and will happily run legally between 780 and 790 fps with a little left for a "safety margin". The legal limit for an 8.4 grain pellet is almost exactly 800 fps. Back when I shot AR benchrest competitively the majority of the rifles were AA S400's and the pellet almost everybody used was the JSB Exact. You can be sure if there were a better pellet for the job those guys would have found it. It also seems to be the pellet of choice for many of the countries FT shooters too. I know that my local FT club keep a stock of pellets for sale to the members, they only stock JSB Exact in 4.52mm head size, as that is the one that seems to work best across just about all makes and models of rifle. The same pellet is also sold as Air Arms Field, FX and a couple of other brandings, including one pellet sold under the RWS brand!
There are others out there if the JSB's really don't work for your rifle, RWS Superdome and H&N Field Target Trophy would be the ones to look at first.
