Walther Lg400 vs Steyr Challenge E

Post by Victor L »

Hi guys, i am new to this forum and am currently looking to buy a fourth rifle for 10m air rifle within the next couple month. I own a Bleiker Challenger smallbore rifle with a G&E RS Revolution III stock, an Anschutz 9003 Premium S2 Precise, and an Anschutz 9003 with a MEC stock. I would like to try something new (besides Anschutz) and the two rifles i have been looking at are the Walther Lg400 Anatomic and the Steyr Challenge Electronic. Also, i am aware that the Feinwerkbau 700 and 800 are great guns as well, but i am not a big fan of the cocking mechanism on Feinwerkbau rifles and support for Feinwerkbau is limited where i live. Any input is appreciated to help me decide on which rifle to purchase. (p.s, i know that i cant out-shoot any of the guns i own or am looking to purchase, but am looking just to try something new).

Thanks, Victor

I've got to say the LG, my daughter shoots one and sometimes lets me shoot it too. Having been a 3P shooter twenty years ago I have not shot standing in all that time, and never shot AR. Even so I can manage to shoot in the mid high 80's most of the time with her rifle. It is the first time I have picked up an AR and found it as comfortable to shoot as a free rifle.

Hi Alan, i have a few questions about the Walther LG. Do you know what the minimum trigger pull (length) is for the air rifle and what is the minimum weight of the trigger pull is? I usually have my anschutz set to a 50g dual stage trigger with about a 1.5-2mm and prefer a short trigger pull. Also how much effort does it require to cock the gun (ie relatively light such as an anschutz or require more effort like a feinwerkbau)?

Thanks Victor

I have the Precise 9003 and lg400 alum. Adjustments are equivalent, and I think the trigger on the lg is better. Both are great rifles but I prefer the Walther. The Anschutz leaver swings horizontally, and the Walther swings vertically. I prefer the loading of the Walther. I wish I could sell the Anschutz, but I may switch back because it is a great rifle.

My daughter shoots the LG400 Anatomic. We also have a FWB 800 and one of her friends has a 9003. All shoot equally well, so no advantage one way or another there. She likes the "feel" of the Anatomic best and shoots it best. The LG400 is easier to load with the drop in loading tray. Much easier than poking a pellet in the end of the barrel. I will admit the FWB is easier to make adjustments on while in position.

Well to answer a few questions. I never though that I would find a better trigger than the one on my Anschutz 1813, but that Walther trigger has it beat by just a little. The drop in loading tray is nice, and again the same as my sporting Air Rifle that I used for BR comps. What I do like on the new Walther 400 action, and it is only minor, but there is an indicator to show that there is actually a pellet in the breech. Very useful if you are interrupted during the loading cycle. Or like me just tend to forget where you got to at times.
