Heel Placement - Kneeling

Post by Dave IRL »

I've been working on building my kneeling position lately and have been running into one conspicuous issue, which is where to sit down on my heel. Putting the heel square on the tailbone puts a lot of twist in that knee and is very uncomfortable, as well as shifting my balance to the outside of the position in a way that seems to result in some very unpredictable fliers. I could be shooting solid tens, only to get a seven without feeling anything change. I definitely notice I'm working very hard to balance that way. However, shifting the heel onto the buttock itself seems much better balanced and takes the strain off the knee, while also putting myself and the gun in a much more suitable position. Just wondering whether there are any other issues which might arise from this before I start training it harder, since I'm keen not to make problems for myself where none really exist.

Do you do stretching exercises before trying to get into kneeling? If not ,,you should. That could help take the stress off the knee. Try it, then get in to position without the gun and see !) how it feels, and 2) where your position is pointing. You may need to adjust sling length to find the proper position with your spine over your heel (I'd bet on longer).
