The negative of the plastic (no.2) is that it degrades with time and ends up breaking.
No. 1 is the oldest (Fwb 601) and steel sheet....

I have both and they function the same . Adjust knobs are nicer on the late model but you need an allen wrench to take it off the rail or move it.
The plastic tunnel hood is very strong and both sight bodies are made from an alloy casting.
The early model has a knob to remove it from the dovetail, so no tools are needed.
