Length of Federal 714 compared to CCI SV

Post by Leon »

Hi

If anyone has both of these, can you please measure the length of Federal 714 and see how it compares to CCI SV ?

I'm looking for .22 practice ammunition which is slightly shorter than CCI SV....

Thanks...

While I don't have any Federal 714 in the house, I do have some 711b, which should be the same as 714.

Fed 711b: 0.987-0.988"

CCI SV: 0.990-0.991

From what I recall, CCI-SV is one of the longer rounds out there. You might want to check over at Rimfire Central. I seem to recall seeing some charts about OAL, rim thickness, etc., in the .22LR section over there.

Just a query. I thought 711B was the only Federal Gold Medal pistol round. Here in Oz we can get 711B and 719 which is for rifles.
I gather 714 is a much cheaper round but is it still standard velocity?

Just for info the SAAMI spec is 1.000"-0.050" for .22 Long Rifle (both Sporting and Match).

According to the websites of shooting suppliers in Germany, 714 is made exclusively for the European market.....

Length of Federal 714 compared to CCI SV

I had problems with the CCI cartridges as well. Their length was considerably different from one cartridge to another (of the same batch!), to the point they weren't feeding in the magazine of my Tesro. This was quite unfortunate because they grouped as well as any other brand on 25m. So I measured them and sorted them by lenght. The longer ones, I use in my 280 without a problem.

Must be a very flexible definition of 'europe' - there is a lot of 714 sold and used here in Australia.
I rattle my way through 10 - 15000 of Federal Champions 714 in a year.

So Spencer, what price are you spending for a case?
I have just bought a new case of 711B which my pistol loves but I am not afraid to get some 714 as well, seeing my daughter had just started pistol shooting and is keen to stop any cobwebs forming in my .22
