Scope Mount AW-93

For those of you who are shooting an AW-93, and are frustrated because the rear sight is so difficult to remove, I thought I would post a picture of the mount that my gunsmith, who is a first class machinist built for me.
This mount puts the Aimpoint forward of the chamber. It allows you to pull the red dot, and shoot with irons at any time. The base is an after market quick change base but the mount will work with the factory base also. It will just be a bit more work to take the scope off.

My gunsmith did something similar based on a method Roddy Toyota came up with. It required machining / drilling the barrel around the shroud and front sight base so I would let a trusted gunsmith take it on.

BTW, Roddy used a bar with rimfire scope grooves; my gunsmith used a piece of scope rail. As a result, I can't disassemble the gun without removing the mount. Next time I'll ask for the smaller rail.

The scope rail is low enough that it is below the open sights.

Steve, I was very concerned about adding a lot of extra weight to the gun. The AW is one of those guns that I find perfectly balanced with the recoil buffer on the gun. I didnt want a lot of extra weight on the front end of the gun, and I told him to make the mount as small as possible. I weighed my gun with a CMM scope mount and an ultradot, and then weighed it with the custom mount and the aimpoint. The gun was 4 oz or 113g lighter, mostly off the front end of the gun.
And, yes, I know it is hard to tell from the pics, but the scope mount is low enough so you can leave it on and still use the irons. One of the best features of the AW is that dip in the middle. :-) I think I am going to love it. Do you like yours?

You are correct. Both my Hammerlis are sold now, and I have two AW-93s.

Great guns, my 208S is just memories nowdays, but im using the Brienovitch mount for my ultra dot, puts the weight off the rear and balances better to me.

I am also using the Brenzovich mount for my Aim point micro. Man, was that a PITA to install. He mentioned you'd have to carve a little, not cut a massive notch.

Anyway, I'm very happy with the mount (once I cut out enough grip). Glad you are happy with yours.

I had two of the old style Brenzovich mounts. The ones with nothing by the three microscopic torx screws holding it on in the back. I finally had to use locktite on it to get the scope to stop moving on the gun. I had heard that the new mount was better that had a screw under the grip holding it, but I do think for anyone who wants to leave the irons on the gun, my new micro mount is a better solution. I am going to have my second gun done in the next month or so.

Do you need to remove the sight for disassembly?

I have not had to use loctite on my mount but am keeping an eye on it. There is a larger center torx now that is under the grip.

I am not sure what you are asking here. My gunsmith took everything off the gun to put the scope mount on. It is contoured to the barrel, and the gun can be totally disasembled without removing either the scope or the mount. The scope itself is on an A.R.M.S. base with a quick detach lever.
