Vertical movement in Anschutz 7020 rear sight

Post by mobarron »

All: I noticed yesterday that my 7020 has somewhere between .025 and .050 free vertical movement that is independent of the elevation knobs, e.g. put in 7, 14, 20 clicks and the movement is still there. I've taken off the rear cover and don't see anyway to make any adjustment that will prevent the movement. Any suggestions? Mike Barron

I have had a good look at the insides of these too. I think the adjustment screws thread into a plastic inserts. I suspect they did this so they could make the thead fit into the plastic very tight and elimiate any back lash since the carrier rides on ball bearings and takes very little force to move. I wonder if the threads in your plastic insert have gotten stripped? I have done some checking in the past and the 7020, when all is well, has virtually no backlash. All other sights I have tested have some.

Thanks for your comment. I'm not going to try to locate the cause. I don't have much confidence in my ability to fix it unless I can get some very specific instructions. Mike Barron

I had the same same problem, huge backlash in the vertical adjustment. The two screws holding the vertical adjustment plastic block had came loose. Very easy to fix, just tighten the screws and the sight worked like new.
