Anschutz SuperAir 2002 for airgun silhouette
I am a new airgun silhouette shooter and have purchased this single stroke pneumatic rifle to shoot airgun silhouette ( 20, 30, 36, and 45 yd. targets - no paper ). It is a fun gun to shoot and groups well with 7.9 gr. Crossman Premier pellets ( round nose ). In the manual the only pellets mentioned are flat-nosed pellets ("wad cutter"). I have a number of questions: 1) are flat nosed pellets mentioned because the 10 meter games shoot paper and that makes scoring easier or is there some other reason?; 2) what has been anyone's experience with these rifles in terms of seal life?; 3) what major problems ( if any ) have users experienced over the life of their rifle?; 4) How many years were the single stroke pneumatics produced?; 5) Why did these rifles stop being produced? Were there any inherent design problems or maybe the CA rifles caused demand for the single pump pneumatics to disappear? Any answers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Wadcutters are excellent for paper targets because of the clean hole it leaves, SSP air rifles were produce up until the early 2000's IIRC. Seals should be good for quite awhile and if they go bad Anschütz will repair them. Not 100% sure on the 2002 seal life but my Diana 100 has had the same seals for about 5 years now, and before that it had factory seals so roughly 15 years.
They stop being produced because the Pre-Charged Pneumatic rifles came out (PCP) they allowed the shoot to not take the rifle out of the shoulder and also reduced fatigue due to cocking the rifle, (not that it is too difficult to cock).

The Anschutz 2002 is a great gun and will not require much maintenance.
They used to have a Running Target model which had an offset and longer loading port lever which made scoping them easier. It is not 100% necessary, but you might contact Neal Stepp at I.S.S. to see if he may have the parts lying around.
