Post by ModestoPete »

Does anyone know where I can purchase the Black Match Lighter used to blacken sights?

Hi Pete, until you find a Black Match Lighter, tightly twist a length of

regular tan masking tape, light the end and blacken the Bejeezus out of your

sights. I got this tip right here from a sight blackening thread.

Good Afternoon Sir,

I believe you are looking for the Ray-Vin super smoker.

You can get one here, and the carbide to fuel it too!

They are great folks to deal with, and the smoker is quite nice.

I have looked at the Ray-Vin Smoker but I was hoping to get the Anschutz Black Match. It appears to be a much easier solution.

I see it being sold in Europe but don't see anyone in the US or Canada selling it.

I just tried a Bic lighter. It gave very little soot.

I then tried the rolled masking tape. It gave off a lot of soot. The problem with that is you better have a good, fireproof place to put the buring tape.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Burn a plastic fork/spoon or knife and you get jet black heavy soot. We do it in Highpower matches.

I had a Ray-Vin super smoker and it worked very well, but once some one lights up a spoon, the whole line can smoke their sights off of it. I sold the Ray-Vin to save on "stuff" to drag around and I haven't looked back.

Edit: Make sure you have a place to dispose of the flaming fork when you are done :)

The lighters are illegal to import into the US due to lack of a safety. I used to try to smuggle these when I was over there, but the baggage inspectors would usually find 3 out of 5 of the twelve packs i tried to hide, which meant I was making NO profit to bring them over.

as has been said, masking tape is your freind.
