OffHand Stand Height?

Post by ToddMay »

While watching the Olympic Trials for Air Rifle, I noticed quite a few differences in height positioning for offhand stands. Some had them at shoulder height, some above shoulder height and some below. What is the main reason for having the stand higher than the shoulder? Does it sit into the shoulder better upon the lifting of the rifle?
Thank you
Todd

By rule you can't have the stand above shoulder height.

Thank you Eric, i looked up the rule and you are correct.
I have attached a photo to show you one example of some that I saw. Does it provide an advantage to have the stand higher?

7.4.7.11.2 Rifle Rests
The use of a rifle rest for resting the rifle between shots is permitted providing that it is not higher than the shooter’s shoulders when standing normally.

The shoulder/s can (will?) be lower in the shooting stance.
