Matt Emmon's Rifles

Post by pzoba »

Hi,

I was just reading a couple articles about Matt Emmons, the Olympic Shooter from NJ and U of A Fairbanks. There were two references I read to his rifles... one said that he had a rifle sabotaged with a screwdriver while it was in his locker and so he borrowed a rifle to win the gold in the 2004 olympics. The borrowed rifle was later given to him after the owner/shooter retired in 2005 and he shot all competitions with that rifle ever since.

I also read that he has just recently (2011/2012?) changed rifles and is learning to shoot the new one consistently.

No where can I find anything that says what these three rifles are?
Anyone know? I'm just curious... aren't you?

Thanks -

Paul

From the Lilja website:

At Athens 2004:

"...Matt used Amber Darland's barreled action, Lilja bbl, and Eley EPS."

also,

"Matt & Katarina Emmons win Gold and Silver Medals at the 2008 Beijing Olympics using Lilja Anschutz model 2007/13 drop-in barrels!"

I always wondered about why he changed rifles. I had no idea that it was sabotage?!?! Where can I find that article, can you post a link?

Interesting... From my experience, I shoot better if I concentrate with one gun. I guess he can shoot anything well but I remember the old adage, 'beware of the guy with just one gun, he probably knows how to use it.'

He has a new jacket too; the Kustermann has been replaced by a Hi-Tex.

He is indeed shooting a Walther right now, though it's fitted with an Anschutz Precise cheek piece assembly.

Hi-tex I believe was sold to anschutz, if you look at their webpage they list the hybrid suits which is what a hi-tex suit is.

His smallbore rifle:http://www.ncaa.com/news/rifle/article/ ... est-rifler.
