Post by Perry_w »

Is the Sight from a XS 40 the same sight as the gamo\Crosman?

Thanks
Can I assume this sight will not need the repairs outlined by Fatman?

Perry, remember that these are $100 sight sets. (only $45 when the XSV-40 came out)
It really depends on how much and how "aggressive" shooters have been on whether of not you may need to replace (repair) them.

There are three types of what are called Gamo sights ... only two are true Gamos and one is a cheap Chinese knockoff. I've seen Gamos that were mistreated need to be replaced after a year and have some now that are over 8 years old that are like new.

How to tell what you have: look at the sight from the top
1) Original Gamos have an oblong emboss with "Gamo" inside the emboss
2) Newer Gamos just have the emboss w/ no text
3) Chinese have a smooth top ... no embossing

In my opinion the Chinese sights are pretty much worthless, about only 1 in every 5 or so are reasonable in terms of backlash. I received two of the CC T200's last year that the sights (Chinese) were literally falling or had fallen apart in the box before they were opened. I really don't think that these are even worth working on.

The Crosman sight sets that you can purchase at Pyramid Air (P/N CR-G397T-011) are 2nd gen Gamos ... at about $100 for the set (you get front & rear) they are expensive (relatively) but worth the (lack of) frustration (both for the coach and most importantly the shooter)

The cheaper chinese sight (Air Venturi) at $30 is a crapshoot if you purchase one.

I'm personally awaiting for CMP to allow the AirForce resr sights to be used on other sporters ... (About $140 for the rear). It supposedly has about half the MOA clicks of the Gamo.

I just bought a new sight. The seller claimed it was from a xv40. It has the embossed mark on the sight. It seams tight and not much plastic. I just wanted to make sure it was the sight we are aloud to use.
