Let's Talk Practice

Post by rstriano »

As a new pistol shooter i am very interested in the routines more experienced marksman use in their practice sessions.

Do you practice a course same as competition?
Do you time pauses bewteen shots?
Take timed breaks between 10 shot groups?
Do you drop your arm back to the rest between shots?

I know in golf i practice same as i would play only before a conpetition otherwise just hit one club several times.

Would love to hear practice routines casual and pre-competition preparartion.

Thanks!!

I view training as working on something that is very specific during each training session. Hours of dry fire up close at a blank wall is excellent training. Instead of writing a dissertation I included several references. Work through the USMC Pistol Team Workbook step by step and you will understand how to train. The USAMU book is excellent. I often recommend purchasing a book found at the pistol-shooting website. He has several training steps similar to the USMC training. His book is excellent. I hope by now you have found the bullseye pistol website listed above.

Hi Jack:

Thank you very much. I just purchased an MCP 45 and Nick is mounting an aimpoint micro for my 55 year old eyes. For iron i need a .5 lense to focus on my front sight. My 32 has the red dot and i do better with that for now.

I am starting to read Brian Zinns manual from the link you provided. Tnanks again

You picked a great 1911 to start shooting with. I to have a Mountain Competition Pistol and love every time I shoot it.

The +.50 for iron is pretty norm for most. You won't need it for your Red Dot.
