Go For The Gold!
I was just wondering, has anyone compiled a list of the air rifles and pistols that have brought home the Olympic Gold (and the years)?
Some of us (with too much time on our hands) have done this exercise for all shooters at an Olympics by trawling through the EC forms - but at the end of the day it is the shooter, not the firearm!
What brand of firearm has about as much relevance as the shooter's height, shoe size or favourite color.

As much as I aggree with you, On The Edge asked what air rifles and pistols have brought home the Olympic medals/gold. A survey was done several years ago now by a German shooting magazine for a 10 year period, it was for all major internationals and Olympics, although I don't have the results to hand, it high lighted what make/model won the most medals in air rifle and pistol. In another survey, they checked out what different pellets were being used.
Its a good exercise in its self for market research. If you look at the Eley, H+N and RWS web sites they use information like this in their promotions.
Look at the FWB web site where they list all the medals won with their products, Walther and Anchutz are no different.
I certainly have never 'trawled' for this information but when I last saw the list it was interesting to read to see what the trends were.

OK, if you want to split hairs, "was used". I fully understand that no matter how good the tool is, if you do not know how to use it....
I am just interested in a sort of a chronological history of the air rifles and pistols from the springers through the SSPs to the present day PCPs.
You could give me the names of the shooters and I would not have any idea who they are. I do not compete and very likely never will. I am just starting to mess with 10 meter shooting and am interested in the history of the arms.
You do have to keep one thing in mind though. Why did that winner choose that particular air rifle or pistol?

If you go into the web sites of Feinwerkbau, Walther, Anschutz and Steyr, they all publish the medals that have been won using their guns. They also publish Olympic, world and European records achieved with their guns.
They i'm sure can also provide you with archived stats on their medal wins for past Olympic games.
Somebody published a list on this forum a few years ago, perhaps Admin can find it for you.
