First pistol session

Post by toddinjax »

Hi all,
I bought myself a Webley Alecto to test the waters of pistol shooting. First question; (oh, there'll be more questions coming lol) my hand is a little sore from the palm shelf pressing on the bone just above my wrist when I tilt down to lock my wrist. Is this normal "break in" for a new shooter?

You cannot receive any support from above the wrist (them's the roolz). File it off. Besides, it hurts.

BTW Dave. are you shooting the AP match in La Puenta tomorrow? If so, buy Zurek a beer.

I guess I described it poorly. I was speaking of "above" my wrist going towards my fingers; the little bone that protrudes at the base of your hand, below the pinky finger. The shelf does not touch my wrist at all. I have little fat for padding, my bones are easily felt.

Johns got alot of shooting to do this weekend. I become a grandfather so im headed north. Maybe I will check for matches in Washington. I need new lambskin on my grip my wrist is starting to hurt (back to subject) If I dont have it I cant shoot a whole match, its like i get a blister. You discribed it ok , Rovers just old and cant read well.

I am not familiar with the Webley, other than a picture on the web. However, as with all pistols with the palm shelf, you need to remove material if it is digging into your hand (assuming that you have properly adjusted the palm shelf to give you consistent support along the bottom of your hand). Any pressure points will not help your shooting. Sometimes only a small amount needs to be removed. Take a few shavings off, or use rough sandpaper, and do some trial fitting.
