All of the 3-P Sporter rifles are also legal under precision rules.
This allows a 3 person "precision" team to legally add a sporter shooter to the team to make a 4-some.
If you use a sporter gun in a precision event, there are some things you can do >>in the precision event<< that you cannot do in a sporter event ... one would be to decrease the trigger pull below the 1.5 lb sporter limit. Again, only if firing as a "precision" gun.

Texas shooter, I have thought the same thing.
I have one and the gun is fantastically accurate. It can shoot one hole groups not much bigger than the size of a pellet all day.
I practice with mine constantly in my house. The drawback is the stock. It is not anatomical in the grip, and the weight of the rifle is too light.
I have weight all over my Crosman and have got it to about 11 pounds. I am in the process of grinding the hell out of the stock and adding bondo to change it to a more olympic style stock. I will send you pictures when I am done.
But there is absolutely nothing wrong with action and function of the rifle. I have tried in vain to find someone who makes or could make a custom aluminum style stock for this gun at a decent price. With that, one could have a terrific shooter for probably under a thousand dollars.
