modifying the Airforce Edge to shoot field target

Post by adonsmith »

My daughter has an airforce edge that I would like to modify for her to shoot field target. I think it is standard with about 5 ft lbs at muzzel. Is there a modification to a larger tank and regulator that increases closer to 12 ft lbs?

I think I know the answers but you will get better info on the talon airgun forum. Google it.

Options to improve power include - Longer barrel, get a talon tank, increase the spring force in combination with a heavier hammer. The cost of all these with new parts is probably 250 or more.

Consider getting a the CZ 200 which is a lighter pcp and I have seen new ones under 400 shipped and possible find used under 300. I think accuracy will be easier to get. The airforce rifles need tinkering and tuning to get top notch. Barrels can be an issue. I have had one of each model and now just have an edge that I use for youth training. Love the ergonomics of the edge. Accuracy is pretty good once I swapped barrels with the original one on my talon ss. The original edge barrel wasn't top notch.

There are other options obviously but I think you are wanting to keep weight down.

Good luck.

Montster is pointing you in the right direction for info on modifying the Edge. I would read through all of the postings about modifying it before doing such though. What you will find is that most of the attempts at boosting the power were not that satisfactory.

The Edge was designed for sporter class shooting and does a great job. But unlike the Talon and Condor, it is not as amiable to modifications. About the best modification for it is the replacement of the 12 inch barrel with an 18 inch barrel. That will give you about 50 FPS more and improve the accuracy some.

As Montster pointed out, you would probably be better off buying another rifle like the CZ 200 for what you want. Just add another air rifle to the collection and enjoy.

If budget is one of your constraints, perhaps something can be worked out with your Edge (wink, nudge, wink).
