Time limits for the USA-50 target?

Post by IPshooter »

I am trying to dig up the time limits for events using the USA-50 smallbore target in a USAS-sanctioned match. I'm not a rifle guy, but I understand it can be used for both the 50 m rifle event (3x40 and 3x20) and the 50 m rifle prone event.

My question is when this target is used, either on fixed target stands or on carriers, what time limits are used for both sighters and for shot strings?

Any help would be much appreciated.

USAS rules do not seem to give any information on this topic. They talk only about 50 foot shooting as "developmental events". Do the 50 meter time limits apply, and if so, which ones??

Hi Paul,

It's good to hear from you.

The rules are clear as mud on this to me. And, it gets more complicated since these targets are frequently used on either carrier systems or stationary frames.

I hope we have some match directors out there who have used them in these matches and will respond.

Per the rules for the USAS 2011 State JOs

SMALLBORE RIFLE- 3x20, 50 feet

Pit operated or target carriers: 2 hours, 30 minutes OR if changing targets between positions- 40 minutes prone, 60 minutes standing, 50 minutes kneeling.

Other systems: 2 hours, 15 minutes OR if changing targets between positions- 36 minutes prone, 54 minutes standing, 45 minutes kneeling

I note that you mentioned 50m as a distance.
USA-50's are 50 foot targets.

Gary's timelines are correct ... hanging all the targets (2 in each position) on fixed stands is the "other systems" timeline and you normally use a "block time" of 2H-15M. If you don't want shooters messing with their rifles between positions, use the 36-54-45.

Also, the time limit includes unlimited sighting shots before the first competition shot.

Match Time Limits

Hi:

The general link to find all USA Shooting Rules is: http://www.usashooting.org/downloads.php

Targets = Technical Rules Section 6.3.1A
The Link is: http://www.usashooting.org/downloads/20 ... 20TECH.pdf

Use NRA, A 50 target for 50 meters until USA licensed target released.

Time = USA Shooting Rifle Rules Section 7.7.
The link is: http://www.usashooting.org/downloads/us ... 0rifle.pdf

Men's 50 meter 3-P Rifle paper targets, 120 shots = 3 hours 45 minutes
Prone 60 minutes
Standing 90 minutes
Kneeling 75 minutes

Women's 50 meter 3-P Rifle paper targets, 60 shots = 2 hours 30 minutes (block time)

50 meter prone match paper targets, 60 shots = 90 minutes

I hope this helps

George
