Unique DES 69 malfunctions

Post by alpal »

My Unique .22 began malfunctioning with most brands of ammo with the exception of Geco pistol but eventually they failed too. The problem was about 3 out of 50 shots the firing pin would strike the case but the round would not fire, a recock and a second strike it would go off. A local gunsmith tried reducing the actual area of the strike on the firing pin but this didn't solve the problem. On comparison with similar pistols in our club it was fairly obvious that the main spring was weak. I was fortunately able to get a new spring from "Sportec AB" in Sweden, it was an extremely tedious job to fit it but the problem is now solved. The pistol has not malfunctioned once in well over 1000 shots.
I hope this may be of some help to anyone else who has had a similar problem.
Cheers Alpal

I've never had a problem like this with my DES69, but on a couple of other firearms. Check the striking pin channel in the slide for powder residue and wax buildup, where it narrows down, in front of the return spring. It will shorten the travel of the pin or slow it down just as it is striking the rim.
