Dr. Evil/ Austin Power's pinky technique

I was reviewing the video of 2008 Olympic air pistol.

I noticed an odd pistol holding technique used by the Gold medal winner.

He used Dr. Evil/ Austin Power's pinky technique!

The gold medalist had his pinky off the grip while shooting.

I tried that technique today. It seems to make steering the front sight easier when pinky finger is off the grip.

Any comment on this Dr. Evil pinky technique?

I used to shoot slowfires with my pinky and thumb both standing proud off the grip. That straight back thing with the other fingers was more noticable.
