Jacket for informal freehand ?

Post by Guest »

As a new shooter I've been reading as much as I can on the sport and I am very surprised at the importance given to the correct clothing. I'm just having fun in my garage, but of course doing well is what is FUN. I'd also like to spare my degenerating vertebrae any more pain than necessary. I'm interested only in offhand shooting. I read some where that for standing only, something like this

would give better support, easier fit and be more comfortable (I'm in a garage in Florida) than a more expensive leather/suede jacket.
I know it is not legal for competition but for now I'm ok with that. Would this be a wise and appropriate piece for my needs? Also, what to look for in fit; loose vs snug, length of sleeves at rest vs holding the rifle etc.
Thanks, todd.

If it is informal shooting, just get a back belt from Home Depot.
That is what I use.

Well, now that you have said that you are having issues with your vertebrae, I would advise you to stay away from any kind of shooting other than offhand one. Doing otherwise could only make things more badly! Also make sure to get yourself a good back belt for your size!
