New Izzy question

Post by UpDok »

I just picked up a new Izzy (actually marked Baikal MP-46M) and I'm rather pleased with the good quality. It is better than I expected for the relatively modest price.

I adjusted some of the creep and over-travel out of the trigger and it shoots better than I expected. I also took a file & sandpaper and rounded the sharp perpendicular edge of the grip where my lower three fingers wrap around it. It is now much more comfortable to hold and shoot.

My question is; was this pistol developed from an Olympic Pistol that was used by the Russians several years ago, or was this product simply developed as a modest-cost target pistol but not necessarily for Olympic use?

I just got one myself.....Ive read where this gun was used by the russian's to win several title's......but now the technology has gone beyond the single stoke gun......fwb used to produce a fwb 103 that was a single strike gun but has now sadly been dicontinued as well as the model 65 again discontinued.....if your just a hobby shooter or even a club level shooter I feel the 46m will take you as far as you want to go......I know from my own experience that I will never be able to out shoot the ability of this pistol......I shoot @ almost 10m in my basement about 8.5 -9 and at that distance the 46m will put every shoot into one hole ( over a rest) I will never be able to hold this gun that well.....so if your lookin to shoot at the national level ...it has that cability....if you can afford some 1500-2000 shooter more power to ya....I'm sure someone with far more knowledge than I will chime in.....as they should but @ 400.00 the IZH-46m is a pretty serious target shootin machine..........enjoy your purchase as I have

I am by no means a world class AP shooter.

I dabble in FP and AP.

I regularly shoot BE.

I have owned an Izzy for about a year and a half now.
I practice in my back yard on occasion.

I shot my personal best today here in Phoenix at the AZ. International Championships with an 551.

I feel that I am not to the level to get a more modern air gun, the Izzy is just fine for me.

Heck, I shoot a TOZ for FP, my personal best is 497 (got to work on that).

that is a big difference between FP and AP at these levels - typically AP would be 20-30 points above the FP scores
