Why is there a trigger weight limitation at all? Safety?

Post by Guest »

Just a discussion I had with some other shooters. Why is there a trigger weight limitation on AP but not on air gun? Is this meant to be a safety aspect? Also why are there different weight limitations for the different pistol disciplines, is this simply historic or is there any logic to it?

Historically there were different weights for different events. 500gm ap, 1000gm STD pistol, 1350 gm for CF, and nothing for free pistol. Only recently have they consolidated some of the weights STD and CF are both now 1000gm. Personally it's just part of the complexities of the event, just like they all have different target sizes.
