MEC Contact III butt plate for prone

Post by JH »

Hi all,

I have a MEC Contact III butt plate and I am considering using it for prone instead of my standard Anschultz hook butt plate. I have read elsewhere on the web that this butt plate is designed to be an air rifle butt plate. Is there any reason why I should not use the Contact III?

I attached a picture of the Contact III.

Kind regards,
JH

That is what I have on my prone rifle, going on the 6th year.

If it fits, use it. I like mine for off hand. The hook does help to maintain the same contact/placement, but I always visually confirm the placement when mounting the rifle.

I personally feel a great importance in the hook on the butt plate as a tool to being consistant with the position of the butt in the shoulder. Saying that if you use this butt and are comfortable that you are placing the butt in the same position, use it!

Happy shooting

I would like to point out that the best prone shooters in the world use a hook buttplate. I have never seen one not use one in the many ISSF finals I have watch.
