Rapid fire air pistols - a new dimension in shooting

I had an opportunity to "borrow" a Steyr Rapid Fire ( LP-50) air pistol. I was immediately struck by its precision and ease of use. In fact , I was so impressed with this pistol which was was equally as accurate as my single shot FWB ( at least as well as I could shoot it) that I immediately propositioned the owner to sell it to me, and he agreed ( it was about eight years old and looked like it was never used). Steyr, along with FWB, have taken the rapid fire air pistol to the next level of total perfection. This is the best of both worlds.

My wife (who is heavily involved in IDPA) talked me into a progressive reloader so we could reduce, substantially, the cost of reloading 9mm ammunition for IDPA practice. However, the Rapid Fire air pistol seems to fine tune the discipline of trigger control and sight alignment 100X faster than center fire practice, alone, and at a quantum reduction in cost.

I would think the next logical step for us would be to un-install the ergonomic Steyr grips for the plain Colt-like 1911 grips and install the drop-in easily replaceable heavy-pull center-fire trigger. Things couldn't be better. For serious single shot competition, the ergonomic grips are perfect, and can easily be re-installed in about two minutes, along with the amazing trigger of the Steyr (my FWB single shot also had an amazing trigger.)

I just placed an order for 15,000 of the incredibly cheap, but low quality,
Daisy flat nosed pellets for rapid fire practice. I would use the Vogel, RWS or H&N for serious practice or competition.

The bottom line is that the Steyr LP-50 (and I am sure the FWB equivalent) are a perfect dual-purpose practice and serious event pistols available, and should be serioiusly considered, despite their high price tag.

You are going perfectly down the road I recommend for 5-shot shooters: a 5-shot AP with a heavy trigger and grips like your CF pistol.
