clicks do not match reality

Post by Doral »

Steyr LP10 clicks, according to targetshooting.ca, is 1.2mm per click.

If that is true, than each pellet size 4.5mm would require 4 clicks.

But when I click 4, the movement is about a whole ring (size of 2-3 pellets).

What gives?

Backlash?

Post by peterz »

When you click the sight xx clicks in one direction, do you get one large jump and then some more at about the right size?

Does this happen to you when you've gone, say, 10 clicks to the right and then want to back up one click?

Could be backlash or a problem with the gear adjustment. Is the sight new, or worn in over thousands of rounds and more than a couple of dozen clicks?

We'll likely need that info to make a precise diagnosis.

You are sure a real top shooter to see the difference from 3 to 4 clicks...

What happens if you turn it, say, ten or twenty clicks?
Easier to see the difference then,
and a little slack doesn't matter..

sight movement

Post by BEA »

Have someone either move or not move the sights, but not tell you which or how much. Then try shooting and see where the shots go. Sometimes moving the sights causes a mental adjustment too. In the end the most important thing is whether or not you can get the pistol sighted in.

When we take into account that one ring is 8mm and not 9mm(two pellets) or 13,5(3 pellets), I think we are closer to the root of the problem...

One thing to consider:
The stated movement per click is true for one specific setting of the sight radius.
Short sight radius will give more movement per click at the target than a longer radius.
