Grip maker - who's out there...

Post by Brian James »

In the interest of helping shooters at all levels, could people share with the forum the different grip makers they are aware of, including small ones who may specialize in with one brand or another. Any contact information and their specialy would be apprecaited.

The reason I'm asking is because I often see shooters asking the similar questions about grips; or shooters for whatever reason are seeking out a new grip. Not to mention in my limited travels abroad, I have seen unsual grips from grip makers who I wouldn’t have a clue how to contact or knew what they specialize in.

There is an art to making grips and its something I apprecaite.

For those of you who are willing, please submit any photos of a grip makers work. Some people want to see attractive grips, innovative ones, unusual, etc…

I'm going to try and provide the information for the grip makers I know. If I do not have the information listed please complete

Seaton modifies grip. He is in the far west of Arizona. I have heard that he is very good from one of the posts on this forum.

I've had good luck over 30 years with Herrett's:

Nothing flashy but great quality products.

Fwiw, I ordered TOZ grips from Dennis Marschal last February and he never completed the order, nor replied to my emails beyond our initial communication. Seems a bit flakey.

Hmm Zoned, I'm sorry to hear about your bad experience. I however
have had nothing but Great Personable experience with Denis Marschal.
I ordered several grips, several times and got excellent correspondence
and status updates each time. I even asked for special fabrication to include
grip rotation to compensate for my cross dominance. He asked for my
personal measurements and calculated the specific degrees of rotation
for my particular stance. He did not charge extra for this service.
I suggest that you try again; there had to be some unusual circumstance
that caused your difficulty....Best of Luck;

I occasionally make Izh35 grips, Toz36 grips and S+W K Frame grips, although when I can make them is tricky so don't put in any requests.

I made a copy router to produce the final form, will post pics 'soon', and have been experimenting with vacuum casting urethane grips from silicone moulds.

Thinking he was just busy, I was understanding for the first three months, but after 7 months and numerous emails there is little room for doubt. One of the guys at the range said he wrote him in June and never got the courtesy of a reply. Whatever his problem is, it isn't a wise business model. I just did a quick Google on Dennis and found a few other shooters with experiences similar to mine. Many positive posts, too, but that doesn't override my experience. So, IMO, if you don't have time to lay back and wait for a ship that may never sail, there are other reputable grip makers who deliver.

If you've had "Great Personable experience" with Dennis, why not suggest in your next contact with him that his public image is slipping.

It appears that A74BEDLM and I (and others no doubt) are having the same problem with the Marschals (Gustav and Dennis): no response to a series of emails.
However, the other names in this thread look interesting.
(Posted this in the wrong thread just now..doh!)
