I got an email from Pardini stating the production of the model K58 SSP has been discontinued. It didn't say when.

I guess those who want 'em better get 'em. It was the last of the decent SSPs (don't tell me about the wonders of your IZH46 agricultural tool).

You waste your time discussing the best gun because the pistol doesnt shoot the tens, YOU DO!!! Whitch ever you shoot best is clearly the best pistol for you and all others are second best. Cost doesnt shoot tens and is immaterial, the pistol used by the world champion is also nearly immeterial but may be considered if you are searching for improvement, Keep on trying for as near perfection as youy can achieve and never give up. We all know SSPs are the gun of choice for all but a few top shooters and their brainwashed PCC groupies pathetically trying to emulate their idols.

You gotta think of the Izzy a bit differently than a Pardini. Accept it: the IZH has all the elegance of an ag tool. You can plant a burst of small seeds deeply into the black earth of Mother Russia with it, and be sure you spot those new plants within 3 mm of where the Commissar said to put them. On thick woody weeds, it's almost as effective as Round-Up. Wham-Pang and the roots are dead; a little lead left nearby to make sure of it. You can use the IZH to break up big clods of dirt into useful soil with just a shot or two, and if the soil is acidic the resulting lead salts may improve the sweetness of your corn or tomatoes. The unmodified grip is good for straightening the dents in the fender of your tractor or combine, or for pounding small nails. If you're careful you can open bottles of RuskiCola with the back end of the rear sight.

And just incidentally, if you can hold still for 4-8 seconds at a time, you can shoot ISSF targets and bring some medals back to the collective farm.

What Pardini SSP would you be willing to use as such a multi-purpose instrument? The Izzy is the affordable Swiss Army Knife among competition pistols. And you don't even have to carry a tank of gas. And just incidentally, it has a lovely trigger.

That really depends what you classify as a "major competition". IMHO it would be World Cups and above.

Do you have any examples of the "major competitions" it has been used to win?

If i am not mistaken and please correct me if i am, the IZH46 saw action in the 1989 World and European championships and shot a top score of 584 by a Russian shooter, which i do not know his name.

The Izzy maybe ugly, underappreciated by many, but in my opinion, in the right hands, this pistol can shoot scores comparable with the top PCP's.

I have a feeling you know more than i do, so take it on from here:.)

It certainly wasn't the World Air Championships in 1989 (Sarajevo); that was won by Sergei Pyzhianov who was using CO2 by then.

I'm not sure whether I've still got the results from the 1989 Europeans at home but I'd be amazed if it was won using an IZH46.

Where did you get your information?

ahh missed damn. looking at this topic I thought it was a place where I could shed tears (cry a monsoon if you will) about my inability to improve for some weeks. damn :-). and my lp10 is shinier than my ole baikal points at target and shoots ten by itself thingie. Selective memory is such a wonderful tool. :-)

In America, a lot of air pistol beginners use the IZH46. Do you know it? The advertising claim is it has won many Olympic gold medals for the Russian team. Is this a popular beginners gun in Russia and what do you know about the IZH46?
In America? Really? It's the same in Russia a lot of people use this pistol when they start to shoot and I know a very good Russian shooter who is using only that pistol. And that shooter sometimes has the same score, like as mine. I don't understand this. I mean that it is very, very hard to shoot with this pistol because the speed is very low and so must always pump it, but this other guy has nearly the same results like me. And this guy I am speaking of was the European champion 1992 with that pistol. But I know that now he has a Steyr.

That interview with Mikhail Nestruev in 2000 is full of interesting snippets.

The IZH-46M is an ugly, clumsy pistol, but as many have remarked to many shooters asking about choosing a gun, "in the right hands" it will do very well indeed. And it's an economical choice. I happen to like mine a lot, enough to invest in a set of custom grips. At the price, the trigger is remarkably good.

But I can't wait for my FWB pistol to get new seals and be back in line as my first pistol.
