Colt Match Target Rapid Fire Pistol?

Should I modify a Colt Match Target or buy another pistol for competition?
I will be using an Aimpoint 5000 XD.

I wouldn't touch that pistol in any way, shape or form---depending on condition, it is a collector and worth a few bucks. I still have mine which I bought NIB in 1952 in El Paso TX, for $125. It is as new as the day it was bought and still in original box, I fired 100 rounds through it and put it in my safe then. I have been offered a princely sum for it on more than one occasion. "Doc"

Hi,

I just started shooting the 900 event. I am looking into other rapid fire events.

The Colt is beautiful... but if I modified it would it be competitive?

Huelet "Joe" Benner won five national match championships beginning about sixty years ago with a match target. No one has won a national championship with one since then. Almost all the current match pistols from Europe and Russia will serve you better even for US NRA three gun matches. If you insist on US made ,the Smith 41 and the High Standard Trophy or Citation is a better choice. Mayby the 22/45 ruger would work out also but will need a trigger job. In ISSF Rapid Fire Pistol, the Pardini SP New Rapid Fire model dominates. See http://www.larrysguns.com/Products/Pard ... NEWRF.aspx for more information.

The Pardini SP New is also quite popular in NRA Conventional pistol.

Depending on condition, the Colt match target could be worth up to $1000. Keep that in mind if you start drilling or grinding on it you are reducing the value with each revolution of the drill bit.
